My Boyfriend Used My Photos to Start an Online Relationship CH5
Le Chapitre 5: "Are You from Jingluo University?"
A split second before the screen went black, the nursing assistant—who had excellent eyesight—caught a glimpse of the interface on Lu Wenzhou’s phone.
It was actually a photo of a girl...
Having looked after Lu Wenzhou for over a month, they had developed a good understanding of his routine and temperament.
He woke up at 5:00 AM for upper-body training in the gym, then spent his time reading or working on his computer in the study. Aside from necessary meal times and rehabilitation therapy, Lu Wenzhou spent almost the entire day in the study. They had never seen a girl visit or even call, and Madam Lu had explicitly mentioned that Young Master Lu was single.
The assistant silently noted this detail and reported it to Madam Lu immediately after leaving the room.
The next day, 12:00 PM.
Chen Su returned to the dorm with takeout for lunch, only to run into Zhou Mingyu just getting out of bed.
Chen Su was surprised: "Wait, bro, you're only getting up now? Don't you have training today?"
Zhou Mingyu’s face was a bit dark; he had woken up to a barrage of insults from his coach on WeChat. He had gotten carried away gaming last night and hadn't slept at all. When morning came, he simply couldn't get up for training.
However, after a night of hard practice, Zhou Mingyu had regained some confidence. He had carried his teammates in several rounds last night, successfully getting multiple Chicken Dinners.
As expected, he still had the skills. That one match with Sang Ci was just a fluke.
"I didn't make it; skipped class," Zhou Mingyu said.
Chen Su: "Badass."
While chatting with Sang Ci, Zhou Mingyu ordered some takeout.
【Zhou Mingyu: Cici, you're awake too?】
【Sang Ci: Mhm.】
【Zhou Mingyu: Hard work. How did the drawing go last night?】
A few seconds later, the other side sent over two photos covered in heavy mosaics.
【Sang Ci: Finished two drawings.】
【Zhou Mingyu: Incredible. My baby is the best!】
While waiting for his food, Zhou Mingyu started browsing for headsets.
After hugging Sang Ci downstairs last night, he had been somewhat coaxed into a better mood. After a night of reflection, Zhou Mingyu had also come to his senses. What did Sang Ci do wrong? She just felt bad for her boyfriend and wanted to help share the burden. It was an expression of her love for him; he shouldn't have been so harsh with her.
Since Sang Ci knew how to play online games, he decided to buy her a high-end headset.
Zhou Mingyu picked out a headset worth over 3,000 Yuan. As he was about to pay, he suddenly remembered Period Bro far away in America.
He realized he hadn't replied to last night's message yet...
After completing the payment, Zhou Mingyu opened the "Youqu" app. The messages were still stuck at "Awake. Are you going to sleep?"
【Xiao Ci: Mm-hmm, awake now.】
【Xiao Ci: I stayed up late drawing last night, so I didn't see your message.】
Zhou Mingyu sent over the photos Sang Ci had sent him.
【Xiao Ci: [Image]】
【Xiao Ci: I’m too tired, so I won't say much more.】
It was currently midnight in the US. Zhou Mingyu didn't think the other party would reply quickly and was about to exit the app.
To his surprise, Period Bro replied instantly.
【.: You draw very well.】
【.: Okay, go get some rest.】
Zhou Mingyu’s finger paused. Then, he took a screenshot of the headset order and sent it over.
【Xiao Ci: Okay.】
【Xiao Ci: By the way, I used the money you gave me yesterday to buy a headset. This model is a bit expensive.】
【Xiao Ci: [Image]】
Lu Wenzhou clicked on the image. It was a white headset with a Hello Kitty design on the side—clearly for a girl.
【.: It looks good. Buy it.】
Recalling what the other party had said about being short on living expenses, Lu Wenzhou’s hand paused over the keyboard for a moment.
A text notification popped up saying his takeout had arrived, and Zhou Mingyu got up to head out.
Ding-dong.
The darkened screen lit up again.
【.: [Transfer: 30,000 Yuan]】
【.: Eat something good.】
"......"
Zhou Mingyu froze for two seconds. He had sent the screenshot for two reasons: one, to prove he wasn't wasting the money, and two, to provide side-proof of "Xiao Ci’s" female identity.
He never expected the guy to transfer 30,000 Yuan just like that.
Damn, I’ve never seen someone so straightforward. Rich people are so easy to scam!
Fifteen minutes later, after picking up his food, Zhou Mingyu replied unhurriedly.
【Xiao Ci: Thank you, you’re so generous.】
【Xiao Ci: By the way, how should I address you?】
Lu Wenzhou was about to type his name.
But in the next second:
【Xiao Ci: It’s just a title; no need for real names.】
Seeing the message, Lu Wenzhou silently hit the delete key twice.
【.: Xiao Lu.】
Surname Lu?
Zhou Mingyu’s eyebrows twitched. He suddenly remembered a certain influential figure from high school whose surname was also Lu.
Are there really this many rich people with this name? Maybe I should change my name to Lu Mingyu?
【Xiao Ci: Okay, Brother Lu.】
【Xiao Ci: [Received: 30,000 Yuan]】
After pocketing the money, Zhou Mingyu thought for a while and decided to send another photo. This was a "big fish"; he had to keep him on the hook.
【Xiao Ci: [Photo]】
【Xiao Ci: My roommate and I are having hot pot.】
【Xiao Ci: Won't say much more; it's a bit inconvenient while eating.】
In the photo, the girl’s chopsticks were holding a slice of fatty beef. Her lips, slightly reddened from the spice, were parted as she was about to eat.
It was a very vivid and lively photo.
Lu Wenzhou stared at that face for a long time before right-clicking to save it.
【.: Okay. Goodnight, then.】
"......"
Who the f*ck wants to say goodnight to you?
Zhou Mingyu paused his eating, his mouth twitching as he perfunctorily sent two words.
【Xiao Ci: Mm-hmm.】
The coach was an extremely strict man. Since Zhou Mingyu had skipped training without a reason, the coach chewed him out and called him to the stadium for extra drills in the afternoon.
As a student-athlete, Zhou Mingyu had great stamina, but even he couldn't withstand the coach’s "Devil Training." After a whole afternoon, he felt like he was about to drop dead.
Zhou Mingyu cursed a few times in his head, feeling quite resentful.
He had originally planned to go to a cafe with Sang Ci this afternoon—she would draw while he played games. Now, those plans were ruined.
Looking at his sweat-soaked clothes, Zhou Mingyu exhaled in annoyance.
Tsk, I smell so bad. I’ll have to shower before I can go see Sang Ci.
At 6:00 PM, Zhou Mingyu emerged from the stadium exhausted, messaging Sang Ci as he walked.
【Zhou Mingyu: I’m done training. Want to grab dinner together?】
【Sang Ci: I’m rushing to finish an assignment; I’ve already ordered takeout.】
【Zhou Mingyu: Alright, see you tomorrow then.】
Afraid Sang Ci would forget their previous plans, Zhou Mingyu reminded her.
【Zhou Mingyu: Cici, remember to come watch the basketball game at 4:00 PM tomorrow.】
【Sang Ci: Okay.】
Walking a few dozen meters with his shoulder bag, Zhou Mingyu approached a vending machine. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a familiar face. He tilted his head and realized it was Sang Ci’s roommate.
What was her name... Ji something?
Before Zhou Mingyu could find the answer, Ji Jiayao saw him. She blinked, likely recognizing him, and waved happily.
"Zhou Mingyu?" Ji Jiayao walked up to him. "What a coincidence."
Because she was quite close, Zhou Mingyu instinctively took a step back—Sang Ci hated the smell of sweat; they usually kept a few meters of distance when walking together.
"Oh, hey." As he spoke, Zhou Mingyu grabbed a bottle of mineral water from the machine and took a long swig.
Ji Jiayao leaned in, tapped the screen a few times, and said, "I’m so thirsty; I want to buy water too." A few seconds later, a bottle of soda was in her hand.
After chugging half the bottle, Zhou Mingyu noticed the girl was still standing very close to him. At this distance, she could definitely smell the sweat on him.
Zhou Mingyu glanced sideways and saw that Ji Jiayao was still looking at him with a beaming smile, as if she smelled nothing at all.
She doesn't mind?
Zhou Mingyu arched an eyebrow and gave a polite smile. He was just about to leave.
"—Zhou Mingyu."
Ji Jiayao called out to him the moment he turned around. Zhou Mingyu looked back. Ji Jiayao took a couple of steps forward, extending her hand with the soda bottle. Zhou Mingyu looked down, his gaze lingering for a second on her long, pointed pink manicured nails.
The girl’s voice was quite sweet as she spoke softly: "Could you help me twist the cap off?"
...
Ji Jiayao returned to the dorm in a great mood. Seeing the person sitting inside, she glanced at the other girl's desk for a few seconds.
Drawing again...Doesn't she find it boring?
Ji Jiayao dismissively withdrew her gaze, sat down, and began editing photos.
Ji Jiayao had over 200,000 followers on social media and was somewhat famous at school, so she updated her feed almost every day with photos or dance videos.
She could earn tens of thousands of yuan a month through brand deals.
At 8:00 PM, Sang Ci put down her pen and rotated her numb wrist.
After staring at her artwork for a few minutes and confirming there was nothing left to fix, Sang Ci sent the drawing.
【Sang Ci: [Image]】
【Sang Ci: Do you like it?】
【Sang Ci: Good luck with the game.】
Sang Ci didn't understand why Zhou Mingyu spent so much money on her. Every meal was at a restaurant costing hundreds per person, and gifts were always over a thousand yuan, as if money meant nothing to him.
She had told him before that he should just take her to cheap roadside stalls for dozens of yuan and that gifts didn't need to be expensive.
But Zhou Mingyu wouldn't listen, and he wouldn't let her pay. Sang Ci didn't know how to repay him, so she generally never refused any of his requests.
Zhou Mingyu was gaming in the dorm when he received the message.
Since he didn't have to see his girlfriend, he hadn't showered immediately upon returning; he had just sat down to play. Midway through, Zhao Jingyan returned to the dorm. The moment he opened the door, he frowned with a look of displeasure.
Bang—
Two or three seconds later, the dorm door slammed shut, and he was gone again.
Zhou Mingyu didn't care much. This roommate of his had a "coffin face" all day long—cold and arrogant—and wasn't close with any of them. Zhou Mingyu hadn't even added Zhao Jingyan on WeChat.
Finishing another round of PUBG, Chen Su took off his headset. Seeing Zhou Mingyu about to play again, he said in surprise, "Wait, I checked your history; you've played dozens of rounds. Still going? Why don't we switch it up? Let’s play League of Legends."
Just as Zhou Mingyu was about to refuse, his phone screen lit up.
Chen Su, seeing him unmoved, continued pestering him to play League. "It’s the new season! If you don't climb the ladder now, when will you? ...I never noticed you loved PUBG this much before."
Chen Su babbled on, and seeing his bro still wasn't responding, he curiously turned his head to see what he was doing.
BOOM!
A thunderous sound.
He saw his brother suddenly launch himself out of his chair like a rocket. Because the movement was too rushed, the chair behind him hit the floor with a "Clang!"
...Did he go crazy and turn into a monkey?
Chen Su looked up in confusion.
He saw Zhou Mingyu holding his phone with both hands, eyes sparkling, and a grin so wide it nearly reached his temples. He looked as excited as if he had won a ten-million-dollar lottery.
"......"
Chen Su: "Bro, what the hell are you doing?? You look like a total f*cking idiot smiling like that."
Chen Su waited for two seconds, but the usual "Piss off" never came. He looked up and found his brother was still smiling at his phone like a psychopath. Zhou Mingyu had dark skin, so by contrast, the eight teeth he was baring were so white they nearly blinded Chen Su.
Chen Su couldn't help himself and leaned over to look.
Then he saw a lifelike portrait. The person in the drawing was none other than Zhou Mingyu himself. In the portrait, his head tilted back, holding a basketball with both hands, mid-motion for a shot at the hoop.
The entire drawing featured delicate brushwork, smooth and sharp lines, and bright, vivid colors... a vibrant sense of life seemed to burst from the screen.
"Holy sh*t!" Chen Su marveled. "This is a straight-up miracle! She made you look so f*cking handsome."
"F*ck off, was your literature teacher also your gym teacher?" Zhou Mingyu said. "Besides, I was already handsome, OK?"
Zhou Mingyu’s mood was soaring; his heart felt like it was soaked in a jar of honey.
Ding-dong.
A notification sounded. Zhou Mingyu thought it was a message from Sang Ci and happily picked it up.
...It was that American guy.
The smile vanished. Zhou Mingyu’s expression crumbled a bit. However, since he was in a good mood, he didn't mind chatting with him.
【.: I’m awake. Are you asleep?】
"......"
Every day it's either "awake" or "asleep." What the fck is there to talk about?
Acting as Xiao Ci, Zhou Mingyu replied casually.
【Xiao Ci: About to sleep. Going to see a basketball game with my roommates tomorrow.】
【.: A college student?】
Zhou Mingyu didn't even think about it. 【Xiao Ci: Yeah.】
He waited a while but got no reply, so he hummed a song while heading to the bathroom.
Because he was in such a good mood, he took an exceptionally long shower. When he came out, he was still full of energy and beaming with joy. He grabbed a random shirt, put it on, and glanced at his phone.
That one glance caused the smile on his face to vanish instantly.
【.: Are you from Jingluo University?】
