My Boyfriend Used My Photos to Start an Online Relationship CH3

Le Chapitre 3: "I’m Out of Living Expenses."

"Who are you messaging so intently?"

Not far away, Chen Su returned carrying a bag of milk tea. Seeing Zhou Mingyu staring seriously at a photo, he couldn't help but ask.

Upon hearing this, Zhou Mingyu immediately clicked his screen off. "Nothing."

Worried that Chen Su would keep prying, Zhou Mingyu pulled a Strawberry Boba from the bag to change the subject.

"Here, Cici, this one’s yours," Zhou Mingyu said. "Less ice, thirty percent sugar, with extra boba."

Sang Ci took it: "Thanks."

"Don't be so polite with me." Zhou Mingyu poked the straw in for her and dotingly ruffled his girlfriend’s hair.

Sang Ci’s mouth opened slightly as if to say something, but she held it back.

Zhou Mingyu didn't notice anything wrong and asked in a low voice, "Is it good?"

Sang Ci: "Mhm."

"Then give me a sip?" Zhou Mingyu asked.

"......"

"No," Sang Ci said slowly.

"Still won't let me, huh?" The corners of Zhou Mingyu’s eyes drooped slightly, but his gaze was predatory as he stared at his girlfriend. "You little germaphobe."

Even though they had been together for over a month, they hadn't kissed yet.

The most intimate thing they’d done was a kiss on the cheek. And even then, it was just a light touch, like a dragonfly skimming the water.

Every time it happened, Zhou Mingyu’s eyes would sparkle as he stared at Sang Ci, but his girlfriend never had much of a reaction—other than raising her hand to wipe her face.

Zhou Mingyu felt a bit discouraged, but it was still acceptable. His girlfriend was a germaphobe, after all; she rarely interacted with people and was simple and inexperienced. It was normal for things to progress slowly.

"Bro, Guan Yao’s roommate isn't playing anymore; said he’s going to play ball," Chen Su said. "We're short one now. Still playing?"

Zhou Mingyu: "I’m out."

He leaned back in his gaming chair, stretched, and then clicked through various apps to calculate how much money he had left.

...Not much.

Expenses had been high lately; he’d been spending a bit too much.

After Sang Ci finished her drawing, she snapped her iPad case shut and got up to go to the restroom. When she returned and passed Chen Su, he asked her, "Xiao Ci, are you done drawing?"

Sang Ci: "Mhm."

"Oh." Chen Su asked again, "Then do you want to play a round with us? Since you're already here. You don't come to internet cafes often, right?"

Before Sang Ci could speak, Guan Yao heard her through his headset and immediately started shouting excitedly.

"Holy sh*t, there’s a girl on your end? Who??"

"Zhou Mingyu’s girlfriend," Chen Su said. "Lower your voice, don't be so jumpy, you'll scare her."

Guan Yao: "Oh."

Guan Yao’s voice returned to normal: "Play with us! I'll carry us to victory this round!"

"You?" Zhou Mingyu pulled off one side of his headphones and spoke lazily, "Don't f*cking bait my baby to her death."

"......."

Ultimately, Sang Ci joined them for a round. Zhou Mingyu perked up, straightening his posture.

He fixed his eyes on his character in the game and said, "Cici, don't worry. I’ll definitely lead you to a win."

Sang Ci said, "Okay."

After speaking, Zhou Mingyu looked down and sent a message to their small group chat.

【Zhou Mingyu: Play properly this round. My baby is here.】

【Chen Su: Does that even need to be said? With a girl here, we have to carry her to a Chicken Dinner!】

【Chen Su: Guan Yao, you're not allowed to drive this round. Just ride a horse by yourself.】

【Guan Yao: ......】

【Guan Yao: Got it.】

【Guan Yao: Don't worry, my gunplay is the best, okay? Just watch!】

【Zhou Mingyu: I'll take the lead. Don't steal my kills.】

【Chen Su: Everyone move aside! My brother is about to start flexing.】

【Zhou Mingyu: Piss off.】

Sang Ci turned on the computer. Just as she was about to log into her account, Zhou Mingyu leaned over and typed a string of IDs and passwords on the keyboard.

"Baby, I borrowed Guan Yao’s roommate’s account for you. This account has tons of skins; feel free to use whatever."

Sang Ci: "No—"

Zhou Mingyu furrowed his brows and covered Sang Ci’s mouth with his hand. "Don't you dare be polite with me."

Sang Ci lowered her eyes and turned her head to break free from his grip.

Zhou Mingyu wanted to say something more, but he saw his girlfriend take off her mask and replace it with a new one. Then, she took out alcohol cotton pads to wipe the cafe’s provided headset, disinfecting it several times before putting it on her head.

Why is she so afraid of germs? So damn cute!

Zhou Mingyu suppressed the urge for physical contact, pulled out his phone, and snapped a Nine-Grid of his girlfriend.

How can she look this beautiful even while wearing a headset?

The characters appeared on the screen, and Zhou Mingyu began a simple explanation of the basic controls.

Halfway through, Sang Ci interrupted: "I know how."

Zhou Mingyu was stunned: "What?"

"No need to teach me," Sang Ci said. "I know how to play."

"Oh."

This game used to be quite popular; it was normal for Sang Ci to have played it. Zhou Mingyu didn't think much of it and shrugged as the game started.

The three guys decided to drop at the Military Base. The Military Base had extremely high-level and abundant resources, but many enemies landed there, requiring very strong gunplay skills.

"Cici, pick the Research Building. There are fewer people there. I'll come find you later," Zhou Mingyu instructed.

Sang Ci moved her finger and also marked her landing spot at the Military Base. "No need. I’m jumping here too."

"...That works."

Zhou Mingyu turned up his computer volume and selected "Follow Parachutist" on Player 4. Player 4 was Sang Ci.

His girlfriend didn't know the dangers of the Military Base; he had to protect her well. Usually, playing alone was one thing, but with Sang Ci along, the difficulty was definitely cranked up. He had to play seriously now.

The characters landed. Zhou Mingyu quickly ran through the map to loot resources. He soon encountered someone and started charging with an M416.

"Cici, stay hidden. Wait until I’ve wiped everyone out before you come out."

Hearing this, Chen Su also said, "Yeah, Sang Ci, don't be afraid. We’ll help you Couch Chicken!"

Guan Yao: "Just turtle up. We’re going to get straight to the action."

The headset was filled with the sounds of intense gunfire and footsteps; the battle was fierce. Zhou Mingyu didn't hear Sang Ci’s reply. There were at least a dozen people here. Zhou Mingyu took out two and grouped up with Chen Su and the others.

Chen Su got two kills and was suddenly hyped up: "Trash, watch me one-tap—"

Before he could finish, Chen Su was headshotted by a distant enemy and went down.

"F*ck!" Chen Su shouted excitedly. "Is this guy a hacker? How could he even hit that? Guan Yao, quick, revive me!"

Guan Yao went to help. "Hold on, I'm coming."

Three seconds later, another downed figure appeared on the ground.

Chen Su: "......"

Zhou Mingyu caught sight of his teammates' pathetic state and couldn't help but sneer, "Can you two handle this or what? Stop throwing the game."

Chen Su: "No... the guys opposite are actually pretty good, and there's more than one of them!"

As they spoke, Zhou Mingyu rushed behind cover with his gun, prepared to do some heavy lifting. His teammates were a bit trash, but it was in times like these that he had to step up. Besides, his girlfriend was watching; he couldn't wimp out!

Zhou Mingyu opened his 4x scope and aimed at the distant enemy. His focus was sharp, and he was just about to fire.

In the next second, a sudden burst of aggressive gunfire rang out!

The system kill notifications in the bottom left corner followed immediately.

【"I don't play with Noobs" used "AKM" to eliminate "sdfjk"】

【"I don't play with Noobs" used "AKM" to eliminate "Ur the one who's a crate"】

【"I don't play with Noobs" used "AKM" to eliminate "Prone Tiger"】

【"I don't play with Noobs" used "AKM" to eliminate "Chicken Dinner King"】

...

Chen Su stared bug-eyed at the continuous system notifications, his jaw nearly hitting the floor.

"Holy sh*t, the Noob account... is Sang Ci the one playing??"

Guan Yao: "Seems like it..."

Chen Su was dumbfounded: "Ah..."

Guan Yao was the first to snap out of it, exclaiming, "F*ck!!! Sang Ci, you knew how to play?! Dude! That was f*cking awesome!"

Sang Ci didn't say a word; she just controlled her recoil while charging into the crowd, wiping out two more before calmly responding, "I know a little."

Chen Su: "......"

This is "a little"??

Their account ranks weren't low; the people they were matched with had some skill, yet Sang Ci wiped out an entire squad solo without taking a scratch...

Other than "f*cking awesome" Chen Su had no other words.

Zhou Mingyu revived his two teammates, and only after quite a while did he speak up: "Baby... you're that good?"

Sang Ci said, "It’s okay."

After clearing the Military Base, the four found a car to outrun the blue zone.

Zhou Mingyu felt a bit regretful that he hadn't been able to show off earlier, so he seized the opportunity now: "I'll drive, baby. You take a rest."

Sang Ci didn't care much. "Okay."

......

Twenty minutes later, the game ended.

Zhou Mingyu looked at the ten-plus kill count and the "Rampage Chicken God" title for the player "I don't play with Noobs." He ran a hand through his hair, his mood momentarily complex.

Wasn't his girlfriend a quiet, homebody art student? How can she be so good at gaming?

Dammit, he said he’d carry the girl, but he ended up being carried by her. It was a bit embarrassing.

Zhou Mingyu recalled Sang Ci’s initial "I know a little" and thought about how humble his baby was. Truly a good girl with excellent character and academic performance.

Zhou Mingyu pulled off his headset and leaned in like a puppy. "Cici, do you play this game often? Why haven't I seen you log on before?"

Sang Ci was brief: "I don't play now. I played in high school."

"Goddess, you're a bit too 'pro'." Chen Su’s eyes were shining as he asked excitedly, "Can we play together again in the future?"

Zhou Mingyu: "Beat it. Don't be annoying."

"You even have to control who she plays games with?" Chen Su said. "Bro, your possessiveness is a bit off the charts."

Sang Ci tilted her head and said, "I don't play often."

"Right, right," Chen Su said. "Just invite me whenever you do."

It was getting late, and Zhou Mingyu was looking for a restaurant on his phone. He had just spotted a decent hot pot place.

Ding-dong.

A notification popped up at the top of his screen.

【.: What game?】

Seeing that the sender was Period Bro, Zhou Mingyu’s eyebrows arched.

Didn't you say you were going to sleep? Fishing for a conversation, are we?

【Xiao Ci: PUBG.】

【Xiao Ci: You're not sleeping?】

【.: Having a bit of insomnia today.】

We're all men here; who doesn't understand that little scheme? You just saw the photo of a beauty and want to chat. Acting like you can't sleep.

Zhou Mingyu sneered and tapped away at his phone.

【Xiao Ci: Oh.】

【Xiao Ci: By the way, do you know how to play this game?】

Online chatting was boring and energy-consuming; playing a game together would be better. If asked, he’d just say it wasn't convenient to turn on the mic in the dorm and brush it off.

He had already received several big "Red Packets" using this trick.

The money was sent voluntarily by the other party, and since they were just gaming buddies, he didn't have to be responsible for anything.

Sure enough, "." replied.

【.: I know a little.】

"......"

Zhou Mingyu frowned, his tongue pressing against his back teeth.

If you know, you know; if you don't, you don't.

What the fck does "a little" mean?

Is he playing that "humble-brag" game with me? Trying to lower expectations only to surprise me later??

So fake. Not straightforward at all.

【Xiao Ci: Okk, let’s play together if there’s a chance.】

【.: Okay.】

【Xiao Ci: Sigh, the headsets in the internet cafe are really hard to use. They make my ears uncomfortable, and I don't know if they're hygienic.】

【.: Go to a better internet cafe.】

Zhou Mingyu gnashed his teeth, too lazy to say much more, and went straight to the point.

【Xiao Ci: But I've run out of my living expenses.】

【Xiao Ci: Oh, and my headset broke recently too. My roommate is sensitive to sound, so I can't use the speakers. We might not be able to play together.】

No matter how much you talk to stingy people, they’ll still be cheap. Generous people will "drop gold" after just a few lines.

Rather than wasting effort on chatting, it was better to spend time filtering targets and finding those who were open-handed.

Zhou Mingyu wasn't afraid of the other person losing interest.

To a rich person, how much money was this? A casual meal for them was a month's living expenses for an average student. A truly wealthy person wouldn't care that much.

Ten-plus seconds later.

【.: [Transfer: 10,000 Yuan]】

【.: Is that enough?】
